2023. October 19th, the designation of the mural at the University of Konstanz as a commemoration site dedicated to the Chilean exiles was officially announced. The initiative took place during a day of reflection at the institution on the 50th anniversary of the coup d'état.
The mural in question was originally painted in 1977 and, according to Hochstetter, stands as a symbol of the immense effort of support in favor of the solidarity movement with Chile during the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990). The ceremony was attended by the rector of the German university, Katharina Holzinger, and the Chilean ambassador to Germany, Magdalena Atria, as well as contributions from researchers from various local and Chilean universities. Social leaders, such as Haydee Oberreuter, former Undersecretary of Human Rights, also attended. During the event, various academic disciplines presented the current state of their research in fields as varied as sociology, literature, history, documentary filmmaking, as well as testimonial accounts from people who lived through the era, all of whom shared their experiences and perspectives.
